In day one of Sony’s ‘Countdown to E3’ event, it was announced that a brand new game by Tetsuya Mizuguchi is making it’s way to PlayStation 4 and PS VR this fall. Tetris Effect is named for the real-life effect that sees players visualise blocks and lines disappearing even after playing the game.
Classic Tetris modes such as Sprint, Ultra and Marathon return along with new modes that are set to be announced before launch. It will feature 30-plus stages that come complete with music, characters, and animations that have been tailor-made for each level and are triggered by the player’s actions.
A brand new mechanic called “Zone” will allow players to stop time (and Tetriminos falling) by entering “the Zone” and can then either rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards or maneuver out of potential game-over situations.
