A new indepedent game development studio has been revealed, based in Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle, Wushu Studios has risen with several veteran AAA developers at the helm.
The team of developers consist of studio founder Alan McDermott (formerly of Evolution Studios, PlayStation), design director Nigel Kershaw (formerly of Evolution Studios, PlayStation, Deep Silver, Revolution Software), and art director Stuart Trevor (formerly of Evolution Studios, PlayStation).
Wushu Studios formed with the goal of moving away from the grind commonly associated with AAA development in order to create games with unique concepts combined with interesting mechanics and deliver fun, refreshing gameplay experiences to players.
Prototyping began on their first project in September 2017 using Unreal Engine 4, they describe it as a brand-new IP with a tantalising and unexpected take on the science fiction genre.
Studio lead, Alan McDermott spent many years as audio director on the MotorStorm and Driveclub franchises whilst at Evolution Studios and Sony Computer Entertainment. Alan left Sony after 11 years and worked as creative director on the VR god-game Tethered in 2016.
The design director, Nigel Kershaw is a 30 year veteran of the industry spanning from Ocean Software to Deep Silver, Sumo Digital and Evolution Studios where he was game director on MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.
Stuart Trevor is the studio’s art director with 15 years of industry experience to his name. Previously, Stuart has been lead artist and creative lead at Evolution Studios. He has worked on major IPs and brands such as Dark Souls, Saint’s Row, SEGA, Adidas and Ford in the areas of art and visual effects, trailer production, motion graphics, and more.
We at Conquest are excited about whats to come from Wushu Studios in the (hopefully) near future.
